The EP6 1.6L PureTech engine (fitted to C4, C5, and C5 Aircross) carries a well-documented timing chain and tensioner weakness. UAE heat and extended oil change intervals significantly accelerate wear. Cold-start rattle that persists on any EP6 engine above 80,000 km should be investigated immediately — the timing chain is the EP6's primary failure mode in UAE conditions. Budget AED 2,500–4,500 for chain and tensioner replacement; this is maintenance, not a defect, and is manageable when caught early.
The DV6 diesel fitted to Berlingo and C4 diesel variants fouls its EGR valve rapidly in UAE urban stop-go conditions — particularly on Berlingo vans used for city deliveries. Rough idle, reduced power, and excessive smoke are the symptoms. EGR cleaning costs AED 350–800; replacement AED 1,200–2,500. Ask specifically about EGR status when sourcing any used DV6 engine.
